Oslo on 5th

This development for this market rental complex quietly integrates itself into the neighborhood. Its contextual response is one of its main successes. Given a challenging pan-handle shaped site, this three-story townhouse appearance from 5th Street masks the bulk of a 71 unit apartment complex.
The strict city design guidelines challenged the design solution for this site. With no variances required, the proposed design solution met all design guidelines and was highly praised at the Advisory Design Panel. Inspired by sea-side architecture, the building is expressed as an extrusion of cape-cod style townhouses along Fifth street. To create the appropriate scale to the street, the ground floor units’ entrance are from the street. The compact planning and circulation focus around a private courtyard. Amenity spaces are accessed from this central core.
