Growing since 1979 to meet consumer demand, Willowbrook Shopping Centre, located in Greater Vancouver's rapidly growing community of Langley, BC, now comprises 600,000 square feet of retail space, with 160 CRU's and four major anchors: The Bay, Sears and Toys 'R Us. The most recent expansion, carried out by Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership, added the Sears department store plus 61 stores, as well as a new food court.
An outdoor streetscape atmosphere has been created under the 200-foot-long barrel-vault skylight connecting the new and existing malls. Heritage-style street lights, trees, park benches, and floor tile patterns highlight new mall areas. The glazed barrel-vault element is incorporated into the exterior mall entry, while the Sears entry is given a strong identity by means of a dramatic arch.
