Burnaby Fire Station No. 7

Burnaby, BC

Located in the City of Burnaby, BC, the design of this new fire station is based on post-disaster design criteria. Completed in the Fall of 2009, it was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. The station provides an apparatus floor with three drive-through bays for fire trucks and living quarters accommodating up to 16 firefighters.

As well as providing basic supporting spaces and facilities for the apparatus bays, the station includes offices, exercise and dining facilities, as well as surface and 25 underground parking spaces. The architectural design continues the theme of other recent Burnaby fire station designs and exhibits the harmony amongst existing stations. Recapturing the essence of brick, this design provides another variation of the architectural features by means of different building masses, strip windows and feature canopy signifying the entrance. The sliding gesture of the brick walls and building masses, together with the elevated main floor provide the privacy of the station and reflect the speed of the traffic.
