The Ballantyne Pier redevelopment is centered on a 70-year-old heritage-designated cargo terminal on the Vancouver, B.C. waterfront. The project addressed the old building's structural degradation and upgraded the cargo handling capacity of the pier to contemporary standards. The redevelopment maintains a truck- and rail-accessible pulp storage and handling facility, and includes a new cruise ship terminal that can be accessed by car and bus. The new terminal facilities can efficiently handle two of the largest cruise ships now plying the Inland Passage route to Alaska.

The project retained heritage elements of one shed, which received a seismic upgrade, and replaced most of the remainder.
