Opened in August 2008, this 60,000 square metre facility with a capital cost of $355 million, the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre is the Fraser Valley’s new state-of-the-art health care facility. The 300-bed hospital provides Fraser Valley residents, BC’s fastest growing population, with a replacement facility, providing a wider range of services to patients, including a cancer centre integrated within a hospital – the first of its kind in BC, a University-affiliated learning centre that will promote research, training and retention of health professionals and a patient-centred healing environment.
This innovative project is BC’s highest profile Public-Private-Partnership (P3) and Canada’s first P3 hospital. The partnership is between the Ministry of Health Services, Fraser Health, the Provincial Health Services Authority, the BC Cancer Agency, the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital District, Partnerships BC and Access Health Abbotsford (AHA).
The AHA team includes John Laing Infrastructure, PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc., architects Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership and internationally-known healthcare designers Silver Thomas Hanley of Australia.
