Canadian Airlines
Richmond, BC
Situated near Vancouver International Airport in Richmond, this facility provides 11,000 square metres of office and amenity space for Canadian Airlines' main world-wide computerized reservations centre and several other departments, employee cafeteria, and fitness facility. A five-storey atrium lobby links various departments and provides a visual focus, with ground level space for a public ticket-sales counter and display.
Two wings, one of five and one of three storeys, each step up toward the central atrium. The south wing has the south-facing stepped roofs developed as terraces, providing outdoor space for office users, with expansive views across the Gulf of Georgia. The building is clad with aluminum panels in a natural finish, with blue-tinted glass and blue window frames with a red accent. The atrium area is contrasted to the office wings, with exposed structural steel, cross-bracing, and red interior railings.
