VanCity Centre
Vancouver, B.C.
VanCity Savings, western Canada’s largest financial institution, wanted to locate their corporate head office over the Main Street Skytrain station. This location gives VanCity prominence from downtown looking east, with Vancouver’s workforce literally in transit through their building to and from the city.
The building form is broken into two distinct masses: one oriented to the “city” grid that relates to the string of Citygate towers facing Quebec Street, and the other on axis with the Skytrain guideway, which expresses more “high tech” aspects of the transit station. This massing also serves to slim the apparent bulk of the tower. Green tinted, curved curtainwall glass is utilized to tie in with the Citygate development, while the white metal panel distinguishes the square element. Structural expressed elements are highlighted in red.
